Action for Environmental Sustainability
Action for Environmental Sustainability, or AES, is an NGO based in Blantyre, Malawi. Action for Environmental Sustainability focuses on the intersection of environmental issues and human rights in the nation, fighting to address the most critical root causes of environmental degradation and extreme poverty. AES’ objectives include To build partnership and networks with individuals, organizations and other stakeholders in order to strengthen capacity of the communities as they work towards poverty reduction, natural resources and biodiversity conservation within and outside key biodiversity areas, implementing activities that address complex factors that causes community poverty and enhances human development, promoting sustainable agriculture and food independence, and promoting water, sanitation and hygiene in communities.
AES’ Kumponda Community WASH Project is the organization’s most well known project, focused on water pump maintenance and water conservation in rural Malawi.

The Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM)
The Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) was founded in 1947 and works to educate the community on environmental issues by coordinating social events, publishing newsletters, and scheduling conservation activities. There are nine branches within WESM. WESM is also a member of international conservation organizations such as IUCN, Birdlife International, and EEASA. They support the growth of school-based Wildlife Clubs in order to enhance environmental knowledge and involvement. There are currently about 1500 Wildlife Clubs across Malawi thanks to the organization’s efforts.
