Reef Renewal Bonaire (RRFB)

Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire  (formerly Coral Restoration Foundation Bonaire) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2012. The goal of Reef Renewal Bonaire is to restore degraded portions of coral reefs, particularly the shallow water populations of staghorn and elkhorn corals surrounding Bonaire. Reef Renewal Bonaire works in tandem with local businesses and dive operators to restore the reef, to prompt public awareness and to involve and train tourists and local people as coral restoration divers.

RRFB is currently growing over 13,000 corals in their nurseries and are responsible for the planting of over 22,000 corals back to Bonaire’s reefs. Because the effects of climate change, which is predicted to destroy 70 to 90 percent of coral reefs as temperatures increase by 1.5 degrees, will have such a drastic impact on coral reefs, their work is of great importance.
